Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Whisky Goodness member libraries.

What is Whisky Goodness?

Whisky Goodness started as a personal curated whisky site — reviews, tasting notes, and a hand-built collection. It has since grown into an invite-only platform where invited members can build their own shareable whisky library alongside the curated site content. Think of it as a beautiful, SEO-friendly home for your collection on the web — not an app you have to download.

Do you sell whisky or spirits?

No. Whisky Goodness is purely a library and community platform — we do not sell, list, or facilitate the purchase of whisky, spirits, or any alcohol. Everything here is about logging, discovering, and sharing your own collection.

How do I get access?

Whisky Goodness is in a closed beta. You can request beta access — every request is personally reviewed, and approved members get an invite link by email. If you already know someone here, they can also send you a personal invite.

How do I get started with my library?

  1. Add a whisky — go to Manage Whiskies and click “Add whisky”. Fill in the name, distillery, ABV, and category.
  2. SMWS code shortcut — if the bottle is a Society (SMWS) release, type the code (e.g., 60.32) in the Code field and tab out. The distillery and region will be auto-filled from the SMWS registry so you don’t have to look them up manually.
  3. Track your bottle — mark it as sealed, open, or finished. You can add multiple bottle instances (useful if you own more than one).
  4. Write a review — add tasting notes (nose, palate, finish), a rating, and photos from Manage Reviews.
  5. Share it — once you’re ready, flip the Public toggle in Profile Settings and share your personal URL (/u/your-handle) with anyone.

What can I do with a member library?

  • Log every whisky in your collection with distillery, age, cask, region, and more
  • Track bottle status — sealed, open, or finished
  • Write tasting notes and reviews with photos
  • Rate bottles on a 1–5 scale
  • Share your library publicly with a personal URL like /u/your-handle
  • Appear in the Community Cabinet (opt-in) to see how your collection compares

Is my library private by default?

Yes. Your library is fully private until you choose to make it public. Even then, you control two separate settings: public (can anyone with the link view it) and listed (can it appear in search engines and community stats). You can change these any time from your Profile Settings.

How do I sign in?

Members sign in with Google — no password to remember. Just click Sign in / Join in the header and use the Google account your invite was sent to.

What is the Community Cabinet?

The Community Cabinet is a daily-updated snapshot of bottles, distilleries, and regions across all public member libraries. It only shows aggregated data from members who have opted in (is_listed turned on in Profile Settings). Individual bottles stay private unless you choose to make them public.

Can I export or delete my data?

Yes — both live on your Account & Data page.

Export: download everything you've added — whiskies, reviews, and ratings — as a JSON file, any time.

Delete: type DELETE to confirm, and your account is removed immediately and permanently. That erases your profile, your whiskies, reviews, ratings, and bottle records, and signs you out — nothing is retained and it can't be undone. (Tip: export first if you might want a copy.)

What happens to the main site?

The curated site — reviews, SMWS codes, distillery pages, articles, and the AI whisky picker — stays exactly as it is. Member libraries live at /u/your-handle and do not affect the main collection. The site owner's content is always the root experience; member libraries are an addition, not a replacement.

Is this free?

Yes — Whisky Goodness libraries are completely free for members.
